John, Thank you for your 30 years of service. Your military experience and leadership skills are valuable for any 'great' organization. www.GIJobs.com puts out a list of the most military friendly employers annually. Every year, Fortune magazine puts out the 'Best Companies to Work For', as well. Your options are as big as your dreams. So dream big. Overcome limiting beliefs. You are qualified for much more senior position than you think. Think 30 years forward into the future. What would you like to share with your friends and family that you were proud you had accomplished? When it is all said and done, in addition to your service to this country, what other legacy would you be proud to be chiseled on your tombstone for generations and generations to know of the contributions you have made to make this world a better place? I highly recommend you think hard of the values you are willing to die for. Align your values with an organization that lives and breathes similar values. If you can't find a company that fits, build a business of your own that is a guarantee to fit. Good luck on your next journey.

John, thank you for your long service. Mardon mentioned that you are probably qualified for much more senior positions than you think. That's because military service develops personal strengths that the private sector values highly. Scanning "The Business Case for Hiring a Veteran" (available at website below) can help identify those that fit you personally and the industries or careers in which these have special value.
Good luck, Bill Nobles
