Hey everyone, I just graduated with my Master's degree in Visual Development (Art for film/games) and I'm looking to get my start in the entertainment industry. I know some companies like Disney participate in the "Hire our Heroes" program. If anyone has a contact or can tell me how the HOH program can help me please let me know, thanks!

Joe- a close friend of mine works is an exec. VP at Lionsgate and one of its senior in-house attorneys. I forwarded your inquiry to him. He gave me the following cites:www.vftla.org and usvaa.org He tells me Lionsgate works with these two. Good luck. Larry Schnabel ( Stanford 1963, UCLA Law School 1967; CDR, USNR-R (ret.) )
Joe, I just looked at the work on your site. Wow! You are good! My husband is a fine art watercolor painter (now) but got his start as an illustrator and art director. Seems you have several career opportunities. When I read your question I noticed the "game" reference and thought okay, this guy has to contact all of the game manufacturers. Then, I looked at your portfolio and thought film/TV animation studios. And, maybe ad agencies direct and/or their subcontractors' studios that create film storyboards–like, Mad Men but 21st century. Finally, I realized two things: First, you must contact ALL of those types of businesses, and second, you must relocate to be somewhat in their vicinity. If Altoona, PA has businesses like these, great, but California where you went to school and New York might be better. If you are interested in relocating to England I have a games contact there and would put you in touch with her. Could be nothing? Could be something! YOu are probably way ahead of me on this, but lastly, be persistent. I got my start in advertising by annoying the Creative Director daily; enough that he finally hired me. Later he told me the other applicants gave up. I didn't.
Linked In, Linked In, Linked In. Find an entry point, cold call/email and ask for an informational interview. Remember you must turn a contact into a relationship before you can expect serious help.

Joe, thank you for your service! Hey, Altoona's not too far from where I used to live - Seward, PA. I know you say entertainment biz but wonder if you would consider some parallel career paths. Marketing offices in large corporations and most marketing agencies have a huge need for experts like yourself in all forms of art - much of marketing is entertainment! You may uncover a hidden gem, the perfect job through a marketing venue! Best wishes!
Hi Joe,
One of my brothers is now retired from writing for film. I don't know if he's still in touch or can help you but I'd like to ask him on your behalf.
I also know the actress Toks. That's the only name she goes by. You can find her on the internet and contact her using my name. Taube (pronounced Tobi ) Weiner Pronounced Winer)
If you have trouble contacting Toks let me know. I don't want to give out her personal tel number.
Good luck,
Taube
Yeah Deb, yeah I've heard of Seward. I've been looking into advertising/ marketing too. Maybe I should have titled this post entertainment/marketing contacts. If you know anyone please send them my way!
Hey Taube,
Yes please ask your brother, all of my info is at joearchey.com if he wants to take a look. I will reach out to Toks, thanks so much for your help!
