My background is Navy nuclear engineering with extensive experience in project management and leading up to 170 Sailors.
I am PhD (abd) in I-O psychology and would like a career change to pursue HR, leadership development, coaching, organizational development, etc.
What would be a good entry point to turn my new field into operational experience without selling myself short?

Hi David - a background in I/O Psych or any training, coaching, organizational development activities would naturally lend themselves to Human Capital Consulting. You could explore job opportunities in this area, including the Human Capital practice at Deloitte. We provide these types solutions in organizational change management, etc. to a wide-array of clients. Good luck!
As crazy as it sounds.......education. Most administrators lack the management skills and courage to raise up the standards of what needs to happen at schools for great learning environments. I believe your military background would be a great contribution to students earning/learning self respect, pride and persistence.
David,
You have two good contacts with the prior posts, your area of interest is broad, when you start to narrow of focus do check out professional associations and Linkedin groups. You'll find that connecting with professionals in your field will help you to see the breadth in your new career field.
Best,
Susana
