Public Trust clearances are processed through the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), but there is no way to know when they will be issued because it will vary based on how extensive your employment history is, how many places you have lived, and how many different schools you have attended. For onboarding new folks we've seen timelines anywhere from 3 days to several months and it entirely depends on a number of factors including how quickly the agency submits your paperwork and how extensive your personal background is. The more places you've lived and the more jobs you've had, the longer it will likely take.

You can check with the agency sponsoring your clearance to see if they know where you are in the process. With that said, it's difficult to determine the timeline of your clearance and to track your progress.

Background investigations can take up to 9 months. There is no way to determine the progress (or status) of your case. You just have to wait "till your name is called". In the mean time, don't stop applying for other jobs.
