Business Analyst Mentor Request

Veteran

David Solnok Muskego , WI

I'm an Air Force Veteran re-locating to the Milwaukee Wisconsin area at the end of this month. I already have a recruiting network as well as a couple of good contacts at my dream company Northwestern Mutual. Is there any seasoned Business Analysts out there that would be willing to advise me?

Hi David,

Have you looked at getting your CBAP? It seems you have some project experience that might make you eligible for the certification. My manager has gotten his and found it helpful in managing the team of business analysts for a systems acquisition project I work on. I think you may want to look into something similar to help you certify your experiences in this area.

Best,

Andrea

Venkat,
I already know a Business Analyst who works for Northwestern Mutual. I am more looking for advice on how to break into the field of business analysis. I do not have any direct experience as a Business Analyst, so I just need to know the best way to sell my experience in the IT field.

Hoshang,
Thank you for your response. I am looking at becoming a Business Analyst for Northwestern Mutual's Information Technology department. I have a degree in IT and my background is 9 years of experience in the US Air Force as a Network Administrator. Additionally, during my time in the military I have worked in System Administration, Training Management, and Maintenance Control. The key is that at different points, I have been involved in moving projects forward. Some of this experience was supervising the project, while other times I was performing work on the project. I am trying to get insight into how to sell these experiences in these different roles to employers looking to hire Business Analysts. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Hi David, Can you please clarify what kind of advice you are looking for from Business Analysts? Are you looking to connect with Business Analysts who work at Northwestern Mutual?

Hi David,

Happy Friday! Have you looked into ACP's Mentoring program? We create free, yearlong one-on-one Mentorships between transitioning Veterans and Mentors from a wide variety of industries in corporate America based on career interest.

We partner with various Fortune 500 companies, which is where our Mentors come from. Some of the goals our pairs work on throughout their yearlong Mentorship include translating Military skills for a Civilian resumé, networking, working on interview skills, and generally discussing day-to-day life working in your particular industry of interest.

I definitely recommend you apply to the program here: http://acp-usa.org/Mentoring_Program.

Best,
Lauren
