Many times people fail to recognize that there will always be two distinct paths to your career field. The most common is to look for a job in the industry your expertise maps to, while there is also careers in consulting to those industries. All it takes is a willingness to think differently!
Answers
There are many associations for consultants, each with it's own area of expertises such as:
* Am Society of Training & Development
* Sales & Marketing Execs International
* Institute of Management Consultants
It depends on what experience(s), knowledge, education/degrees you have. Use the yellow pages and do a google search on Associations to find ones that may fit.

I am not connected to the hiring of consultant but rather I wanted to advise vets that can't find jobs in their career field to consider consulting. I was able to transition from engineering to consulting and much of my value is based on my experience.
Are you seeking consultants? I volunteer with SCORE and now ACP if you are interested.
