Hello ACP advisors. I have a Military spouse who is currently working as an certified ambulance coder and she is looking to grow her career and wants to certify as a certified professional coder (CPC) so that she can work from home. She is looking for a company that will share the cost of her CPC and after she completes the training provide an opportunity to code for the sponsoring company from home. So I am reaching out to the ACP network to see if someone might have a recommendation on how she can proceed. Thanks.

That would be a good question for the professional association such as www.ambanet.net/AMBA.htm
Insurance companies, hospitals, Third Party Adjusters, Insurance Managing General Insurance Agents have claims support or any hospital/medical consulting company. Working from home may happen later, when the new employer has confidence in the new employee. Good luck!!
Hello Jim: One option would be to work for a large insurance company in the Claims area. Frequently these positions may be work-at-home as the individual becomes experienced. Also she could gain her CPC certification (many companies will sponsor). At Anthem, Inc. (Amerigroup division in Eagan, MN) we do hire experienced hospital coders for Auditor role - which includes working from home - but commuting to various hospital facilities for audits. Especially if viewing companies that are in multiple states - creates more flexibility for moving and remaining with same organization. Best Wishes!
Search in your area for smaller "billing companies" to see if any are willing to assist someone, while they work. Also look at hospitals in the area, if she is able to do some new"10" coding now, again she work and they maybe interested in assisting with schooling. Lastly I would look at the schools and see what ones have grants, many times military spouses are eligible for grants. I know with the new ICD 10 codes, a lot of places are still scrambling to learn the processes, maybe take advantage of this discourse if she can do any 10 billing what so ever to find an opening. Good luck.
