What are some steps I can take that will lead me in the field of Physical Security?

Well I work for armed security company "Paragon Systems" and along side the Office of Protective Security Services and with that I am learning a lot since being here a year. I am studying Project Management at University of Phoenix, and I have some experience from my unit about physical security, which they are a MP Unit.
Andrew, I recommend the following:
1. Research the top companies in the phsyical security space (Kroll, etc.) and then work through your network, advisors on this site or directly at companies of interest to get informational interviews. The objective is to find out directly from the sector's practitioners what skills and experiences they value and what are interesting career paths to pursue.
2. Look into what relevant certifications you can obtain, such as the ASIS physical security certification. I've found that the information security certifications I've obtained over the years have been extremely valuable to my career.
