I am looking for an inexpensive way to get my hands on enterprise-grade equipment and software to do my own training at home on the weekends and after I get out of classes at night. I was offered my dream job and would like to make a good impression by being as familiar as possible with the software/equipment before beginning in January 2016.
I am aware of these options already:
- govliquidation.com
- using Amazon AWS to rent a few servers and software
- using technical preview software from Microsoft and others
- purchasing used servers/routers/switches from Ebay or Craigslist
- applying to a position as engineer/administrator assistant
If there are any other suggestions please let me know. I am very open to options that require lots of effort or engaging with people outside of my current network.
Thanks for the help!!

linode.com will get you a full Linux server for $10 per month. There are also many tutorials on their site.
Amazon AWS is my favorite but is somewhat expensive.
First step : rent a linode server and publish your own website. You will learn many things in the process. For example, how to configure httpd; how to register your domain.
You can find many good website templates on ThemeForest.com
For routers and switches, www.ine.com will let you rent rack time to do lab scenarios. That would probably mean you need to purchase one of their packages but it's very good material. If you do that, be sure to select a package that fits your current needs. Their offerings would help you avoid buying routers and switches from E-Bay.
At cheaper prices, www.boson.com has a network simulator as well.
Good luck,

Thanks Mr. Green! I'm going to check that out today.
I also recently found out about Microsoft TechNet Labs, a way to simulate scenarios with powerful enterprise tools on your PC without needing a powerful server or chipset.
