I am in the process of retirement form the Army of 20 years. I would like to know if anyone has any information on jobs available in the Fort Gordon area dealing with Food Program Management/Supply.

If you are interested in jobs at Fort Gordon regarding food service, one idea is to go to Fort Gordon and check. However, if you are just interested in Food Service as a whole, you have a multitude of options. You can start off, as Alan stated, looking for food distributors. One off the top of my head is Sysco. They have been around for years. You can also consider a Food Broker. They focus on promoting various food products to various companies/businesses, such as hotels, etc.

If you start off with Sysco, you can use Yahoo Finance (or something else) to find out who their competitors are and research them as well. This will allow you to get into the commerical side and better understand the companies. Then when you go for interviews, you'll have a greater knowlege base (from a commercial standpoint) to speak to.

Getting back to your original question, you should consider going to and networking at Fort Gordon. I was just there a few months ago, and the people at the nutrition station in the hospital might be able to provide some information. I could be mistaken, but I think the MAJ there has to deal with vendors and food products.

Stephanie, There are food distributors in all parts of the US so i presume there would be at least one in our area. Look in the yellow pages of several phone books to see if any are listed. Then You might talk to the managers of some of the larger grocery stores who they buy from as to who they are . . . and who knows, they may have an opeing . . . but don't go asking for a job, just ask about food distributors.

The reason for suggesting this is that by giving you information, the managers will start asking you some questions to make sure they're giving you the right info about food distribution firms . . . and at the same time they may, determined by your answers, see they may have a place for you.
