PMI Application

Veteran

I am having trouble filling out the PMI PMP Exam application. I know I have the hours, and experience needed, plus I am participating in Villanova's Master Applied Program Management Certification course. The problem is actually translating term for term military to civilian.

You need to spend some time reading the PMBOK before trying to translate your experience to ensure you understand the context. This is time well-spent because you will also be better able to determine how well you understand the PMBOK, and if not well, then adjust your pursuit plan to include more time to prepare.

Hi Robert,

When filling out the PMP application, there will be 5 areas (Process Groups) listed per employer on the application.

My Crude Example for filling out hours spent on Project A are:

(Based on an 8 Hour Work Day)
Initiating : 16 Hours
Planning Project: 32 hours
Executing the Project: 80 Hours
Controlling and Monitoring the Project: 16Hours
Closing the Project: 8 Hours

I highly recommend reading the PMP Handbook at the PMI site for more precise detailed information. Always be factual and follow PMI code of ethics. Additionally, I highly recommend becoming a member of PMI. There are a lot of great benefits for membership, including discounted exam rates and free access to the PMBOK Guide, which you will need to learn thoroughly for the PMP exam.

The PMP Exam is changing in November. The application process may also change. Please review the PMI website for more information.
