Hi Cory,

Let me first thank you for your service and say the resume looks good. While this is a very minor thought, one thing you could to do would be to elaborate on the points that you include. For example, under Office programs you could specify the tools that you've used within Microsoft Office: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc. and provide some examples of the basic computing/networking skills that you have.

Similarly, for the skills/experience section you might look to see if you can strengthen those sections by incorporating how your successful completion of this task helped further the mission/objective of your unit. For example "Took phone calls from leadership and base personnel and provided information as necessary" you could rephrase to something along the lines of "responsible for frequent communication with commanding officers to ensure [insert task/objective] was completed within target time frame or met its stated objectives.

Good luck w the interviews
Erik

Hi Cory,

I think that looks much better! The only thing I would still tweak would be where the skills are listed; I would list them in bullet form or short sentences under the job to which they apply. For example:

Work Experience #1 (Dates)
- Bullet point of information about one of my important roles in that job
- Another bullet point explaining the specifics of what I did in that role

Ex:

Office Administrator, Chamber of Commerce, Boston, MA 02115 (Jan. 2010-Jan. 2011)
- Coordinated office scheduling and administrative procedures
- Created automated answering system for standard inquiries
- Organized N-Drive files and updated as necessary

This way people can better understand each of your roles, and what you can do with those roles. You can incorporate many of your skills into those descriptions! Something small to keep in mind: if you are not currently working in that job position, the sentences about the job should be in past tense, but if you are currently working in that position, they should be present tense.

Hope that is helpful!

Hi Cory,

I would love to give you some basic feedback about the information shared above, and I hope it can be helpful!

In general, employers do not necessarily need your objective listed on a resume, it is often not very pertinent to them, because as far as they are concerned, your objective is to get the job for which you applied. Second, perhaps this is a matter of preference, but I would list your experiences first, followed by the responsibilities demonstrated within those experiences, and the skills that each experience required. This is important because otherwise it seems like empty words, an employer wouldn't know what you did in each of your work experiences, so the experiences and the skills/responsibilities would carry more weight if they were connected! This is the same advice I would give about the "qualifications" section; these are empty words if not connected with meaningful experiences that have been explained on the resume.

Here is a good article about things to think about when writing a resume that might be helpful to you, or might help explain some of the things I am talking about: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/10-things-leave-off-resume-131401267.html

I hope that is helpful, let me know if things need more of an explanation!

Take Care,

Emily
