Hello, I will be transitioning from the Navy after 20 years and wanted to know if I could get some feedback on my LinkedIn profile to make it better.
Answers
Step One: Use the resources in https://help.linkedin.com/app/home to make basic adjustments to your profile
Step Two: View examples of effective profiles at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/best-linkedin-profiles-examples
Step Three: Ask for constructive comments about your profile from a professional who uses Linkedin
At each step you'll revise, tweak, and change your profile. Finally, I recommend that you keep your Linkedin settings in the "private" mode until you've finished updating the profile.
Hi Jimmie,
Great advice from Mark and Krystal. You definitely want to add a picture and more detail to your work history. Remember to add in key words that potential employers - or just people that would like to network - would look for. Join a few networking groups and then start sending out invitations to people you know to connect! LinkedIn will suggest people, but also search for people you know. Once you start to build your network, share information that people may find interesting. Before you know it, you will have a large network of people who can assist you with career advice, networking and business opportunities.
Best of luck to you!
Nicole
I agree with what Mark told you and will add that joining a few groups (and participating) and making connections are going to help. Don't wait to make connections until you have it "right" because you should always be improving your profile. Once you have made some good connections, try to get some recommendations.
Mark,
Thank you for the feedback that was greatly appreciated.
Hi Jimmie. The profile you currently have is pretty sparse on information and detail. It doesn't tell me much about you, what your skills are, or what you're looking to do. Try to hone in on your abilities by listing some of your accomplishments with each of your positions, specialized training, etc. If I'm searching LinkedIn to try to find a candidate to fill a position, I need to understand how you could be of benefit to me. I don't encourage an "Objective", but I do look for a summary that tells me who I'm looking at and what they have to offer. Get a picture on the profile, the one you have on ACP is appropriate. Best of luck.
