How do you get your "foot in the door" in corporate security coming from military intelligence security when the employer is looking for GS experience and an SF-50?

Corporate security jobs seem to overlook me outside the military, unless I want to deploy to Afghanistan for years, etc. I have already served as a contractor for over one year in Afghanistan, but am trying to get my foot in the door here in the U.S. Does any one have any recommendations? I apply to several jobs all around every week via USA Jobs and Indeed.

Im not a security specialist however you may want to consider companies like Allied Barton, Wells Fargo, etc that provide professional security services to corporate clients within their facilities. AB for example provides security services for International Monetary Fund. You can also try some of the larger hospitals such as Childerns Hospital - they have a very robust security detail. Hope this helps.

Matthew,
* Are there any by-name employers that interest you? Can you share a few with us?

* Can you share a few live job listings that interest you?

* Please teach yourself about ASIS and report back what you learn and what you think. Can ASIS help match you with goal-relevant mentors and advisors?

* Where did you attend college?

Once you respond to the above questions, let's work on the following:
* Take actions that will help you build person-to-person goal relevant relationships and friendships.

* Build a TEAM of 5 to 10 goal-relevant mentors and advisors.

* Acquire goal-relevant credentials, skills, and certifications.

Hi Matthew!
First, many thanks for your service!
What clearance or certification do you need to get into corporate security? Can you get the certifications you need via the GI Bill or educational benefits that the service offers when you transition from military to civilian status? If you need additional training for these certifications, then, obtaining those credits or training are the first steps towards accomplishing your goal of corporate security roles. In meantime, reach out to any or all security companies that offer these roles for corporate america. Most big companies hire the security firms to watch the corporate towers! That's one of the start points I would approach if I wanted corporate security. From there, you network and talk to as many people as possible to learn your way around and meet the right sources to achieve your goals. If you have a resume, I would be happy to take a look at it and offer feedback. Hope this helps. Wishing you good luck and safety!

Regards,

Liz Campanelli

Bob: Thank you for your input! I applied to a local contracted security firm and had an interview last week! I ended up not getting the job, but after finding the job and pay details I was no longer really interested... Honestly, that is not the line of security I am looking to do.

Tom: By-name employers such as Saic, General Dynamics, Six3, Northrop Grumman, etc interest me. I am familiar with ASIS as I studied the organization for several of my security courses. I am unsure whether they can help me or not, or if it is worth the investment. As far as credentials go, I have plenty of certifications and OJT that should be good enough. https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/395240300; https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/395985900

Liz: You're welcome and thank you :) As far as the clearance goes I received that in the military and it was renewed while I was a contractor in Afghanistan. As far as certifications go, I have knocked out the required ones and many of the freebies I could while I was in that line of work. I honestly should not need any more for what I wish to accomplish.

And again, thank you all for your help!
