Good Afternoon,
I was researching ways to translate my military experiences into the requisite PMP hours and I came across this forum. My primary question is this: What military experiences can I truly use to meet the required hours needed for the PMP? I read that using something as common as Command Inspections and Pre and Post Deployment Inspections could be used but that sounds too good to be true. Could someone please tell me in simple English what is and isn't acceptable?
I thank you all for you time and hope to hear from you all soon

I would review the PMP Process Groups and equate those to any of your military experience that applies. Keep in mind, in the event your application is audited, you'll need documentation of your experience. Anything you have documented through evaluations and decorations will be great to use. Finally, preparation is critical for the PMP exam. I highly recommend any one of the approved training programs, particularly the "boot camps." If you attempt to gain your study requirement on your own, you have to be disciplined to stick with it and finish.
MIchael, those could be used. The difficulty will not be translating the requisite amount of experience to qualify for the exam- the difficulty will be in preparing for and passing the exam. There are many, many discussions specific to this topic on both the Veteran Mentor Network (VMN) and Military-Civilian Career Coaching Connections (MC4) Groups on LinkedIn. I would suggest you join them both and search the discussions as a lot of ground has been covered.
