Hi everyone. I currently work as a private equity analyst researching, analyzing and monitoring more than 80 private equity funds on behalf of institutional investors. I'm very interested in learning more about several areas of finance including equity research, commodities trading and leveraged finance. Does anyone out there have any experience in these fields (or related ones) that can speak to what I can expect in terms of assignments, hours and overall culture? Thanks!

Trent,
I spent two years in investment banking at firms in NYC (Bear Stearns and JPM). 2 years after that working at a mezzanine debt fund and have been working for a private equity fund since July. If any of this would be helpful for you in terms of talking about the culture, work or career progression in some of these industries let me know and I would be happy to discuss.

In the late 1990s I worked as a consulting performing commercial real estate due diligence. Our client base were institutional investors for the secondary bond market as well as equity investors. I still retain many contacts and will be happy to discuss my experience.
Trent, I have direct equities trading and risk management experience at a number of major banks (UBS, Morgan Stanley, and BarCap) and would be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
