I am studying for my Certification in Privacy Law & Data Security (CIPP). Does anyone have tips for breaking into this industry?

If you have or plan to have about 2 years of post-secondary credit, check out the CyberCorps (https://www.sfs.opm.gov), a new program offering great scholarship support to complete a degree in cybersecurity.

Another avenue is to contact some of the increasing number of law firms with practices in privacy and data protection (for instance, Cooley LLP - http://www.cooley.com/privacy) and work your way into a paralegal position. This is a fast growing area of law. Good luck!

Great advice from Jose and Chelsea.

There are many ways to break into information security and privacy. Typically, experience is required for higher paying jobs, but with demand as high as it is, there are multiple avenues into the field.

What is your background so far? Usually building on experience is easier than starting anew.

DF,

Does your university or school have a career center connected to the Privacy Law & Data Security industry? Have you done any internships in the field or joined groups on LinkedIn in the industry?

Great ways to make contacts in companies that serve that particular industry.
