I've been enlisted in the US Navy for over seven years. I have held many different titles from security force patrolman to aviation fuels refueling man to personnel supervisor. Right now, my career options are pretty open I'm just looking for a way to narrow down my options to a field that matches my military occupation. I spent most my time working with Aircraft fuel and now I'm transitioning to working more closely to working with Aircraft (structural mechanic). I'm also looking for the best resources to help in finding jobs in these fields.

Hello Nicholas,
For veterans, there is a great resource to use in helping identify civilian careers that require skills acquired from our used in military occupations. Please check out the following site: http://www.onetonline.org/crosswalk/MOC/
You may want to consider federal employment for several reasons.
1. You can buy back your military time towards retirement
2. Depending on your separation status, you may have up to 10 points hiring preference during the application process. This greatly increases your odds of being called for an interview, and subsequently receiving a firm offer.

Hi there,
Here is a solution. Register with Caljobs.ca.gov if you have not registered and create a profile and register as a veteran.
On the left side of the screen locate the "Job Search" tab. Here is where you can search for jobs.
Under the search you will see
"A US flag Click here if you are a veteran and wish to enter your military occupation."
It will take you to a screen where you can input your branch of service, MOS and personnel category i.e. enlisted or officer
This page will find jobs posted that fit your MOS.
I hope I was able to assist you. Good luck on your search

Nicholas, thank you for your service. The wide variety of your military experiences suggest considering self-assessment tools that can help identify your strengths and interests, and the type industries or jobs that capitalize on those. My April 23, 2013 ACP posting "What are best tools for veterans to self-assess their aptitude, capabilities, and interests?" provided some options and ideas others have used.
Good luck, Bill Nobles
