I've recently retired from public safety emergency response to pursue a private sector career. I'm willing to volunteer my time to learn current good manufacturing practice. My speciality is in hazardous materials and would enjoy being mentored by a CHMM and/or Health and Safety Manager. Consider it interning for free.
Is this possible? If so, I'd appreciate if someone from the greater Boston, MA area would contact me.

George,
Many companies provide internships. Some do so with the expectation that the best will eventually be offered full time work. However some do it to get lows cost / no cost labor. Make sure that you will get valuable transferable experience. Here are some Boston area leads. Look on Career finder or Monster for more.

Agree with Tim's answer. We hire interns from colleges in the summer and do pay, but there are lots of unpaid internships, some that become paid after a period of time.
