Membership / Certification from the American Society of Transportation and Logistics

Veteran

Donald Park Bristol , PA

I am currently looking for employment in transportation operations and I was looking for advice on weather a membership or certification from the American Society of Transportation and Logistics is something that is desired from employers. I have searched through countless job postings and I have not seen this certification as a desired qualification.
Thank you for your time and assistance.

Donald,
Thanks for the feedback, What do you think about selecting a date by when you can provide a progress report to tell us what you learn and how things are going?

Fouad and Tom,
Thanks for the valuable information. I have not seen any job listings that required the ast&l certification but I will look into the links that Tom provided. I have not signed up for an ACP mentorship but this sounds like a priceless opportunity.

Tom, the VCTP Syracuse programs that you mentioned look to be a very valuable resource and I certainly plan on looking into the programs they offer.

* Have you requested a "one-on-one" assigned mentor from American Corporate Partners (ACP, acp-usa.org)? Have you been matched with an ACP mentor? What clear, specific, achievable and measurable goals have you established for your mentorship (e.g. "effectively communicate an introductory 30-second elevator speech")? Note: ACP attempts to match you with a mentor from a large corporation or other large organization. Be as specific as possible with ACP, and consider waiting until ACP matches you with a mentor well-suited to help upon meet your specific and personal career goals.

* How are you actively utilizing your school's resources (e.g. career planning center, goal-setting, assistance with your cover letter, resume and elevator speech, career coaching, career networking, alumni network, local alumni clubs, mentoring opportunities and programs, professors, staff, etc.)?

* Have you researched the 100% free programs that VCTP Syracuse offers to post 9/11 Veterans and spouses? (Services VCTP offers include: assistance with resumes, cover letters and elevator speeches, interview practice, free training for in-demand professional certifications, certification exams paid for, help with certification applications, career networking, etc.)

* Have you identified specific job listings that interest you, and do they mention certifications?

* Have you entered the certification(s) into a job-aggregation site and studies how many job-listings mention the certifications. Let us know what you think.

Although not required by most companies in this industry (not a requirement for most job openings), certification can demonstrate professional competence and a broad knowledge of logistics.Similarly, membership is not necessary as well.
