About Richard
Richard (Dick) Darden is an IBM Distinguished Engineer. He is the Chief Engineer for Data and AI Expert Labs and Learning North American Government where he has overall technical responsibility for all IBM Data and AI programs for North American Government Clients. He is also the Digital Human Evangelist within IBM, where he promotes the use of groundbreaking Digital Human technology to significantly improve human-machine interaction.
Dick is known for his expertise, technical leadership and contributions in turning research technology into delivered business value for clients. Prior to his career in Information Technology, Dick was a US Navy Nuclear Submarine Officer, serving as Chief Engineer of the USS Seahorse (SSN 669), a nuclear fast attack submarine and as a Junior Officer on the USS James Madison (SSBN 627 Blue), a nuclear ballistic missile submarine. He is an awarded international speaker known for communicating complex information technology simply and effectively using “sea stories”.
