About Scott Lawrence

Categorized as juvenile delinquent at age 15 – participated in “Scared Straight” program. Joined Navy to escape legal, emotional, and relational issues at 18. Selected for Naval Nuclear Propulsion School as a Machinist Mate. Reenlisted for Engineering Laboratory School in 1983. Completed Alcohol and Drug treatment in 1985 – sober since, one day at a time. Reenlisted for Navy Alcohol and Drug Counseling School in 1989 – serving for three years in a Level III treatment center. Left active duty to attend Seminary and become a Navy Chaplain. Retired as Navy Chaplain in Sept 08, served with Navy, US Marines, and Coast Guard. Diagnosed w/PTSD and Major Depression in 2007 – completed two inpatient VA PTSD programs at Seattle VA Hospital. Currently participating in Chapter 31, Vocational Rehabilitation and Education – attending Seattle University for Post Master’s Certification as Mental Health Professional.
Enrolled in last quarter – interning at Kitsap Mental Health Services. Serving people with chronic, severe mental illnesses who have often gone without treatment and find themselves among the homeless, in jail, or in mental health hospitals show remarkable improvements through Kitsap Mental Health Services’ Program for Assertive Community Treatment, or PACT Team.
KMHS was invited to provide testimony before the House of Representatives Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services on the effectiveness of its PACT Team. The KMHS program is one of 10 sites in Washington State funded to provide this mental health service designed to be a ‘hospital without walls.’ The KMHS PACT program ranked as one of the best in the State.
