About Matt

I'm an Air Force veteran who found his calling in cause marketing and I'm seeking mentorship in growing my consultation business called Cause Solutions.

I was born and raised in Maryland graduating high school in 1999. I attended various community colleges but quickly realized this was not my path. In Feb 2001, I joined the delayed enlistment program for the USAF giving me 180 days to get my affairs straight prior to actually entering service. My 180th day happened to be Sept 11, 2001 so my indoctrination to the military was swift.

I went on to become an airborne cryptologic linguist flying on an EC-130H "Compass Call" for the 41st Electronic Combat Squadron out of Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ. I deployed twice to Afghanistan in 2005 and 2006 supporting ground operations through communications jamming, counter IED sweeps, and raid coordination.

After leaving the military, I bought into a newly formed skateboard company called Bustin Boards and helped to scale operations reaching our first million in only 2 years. I left the company and became a silent partner in 2009 to finish my bachelors in Business Management. Since then, Under Armour's CEO, Kevin Plank, has invested in Bustin Boards taking the company to a whole new level.

I finished my degree in 2011 while working with a large veterans nonprofit leading their strategic partnerships division. In my 6 year tenure, I was able to create partnerships and alliances with companies like Southwest Airlines, MillerCoors, Google, LinkedIn, and even helped develop the concept for Uber's largest hiring initiative called UberMILITARY. During that time, I helped raise more than $15M.

I left the org in 2015 to start my own consulting company called Cause Solutions. CS is two fold; 1) I educate and connect Fortune 500 companies with causes that fit their business objectives to meet or exceed ROI goals and 2) I educate nonprofits on corporate partnerships and help them build the foundation necessary to seek out these types of partnerships. I've found this to be my calling and my goal is to help businesses and nonprofits understand how they can best work with each other to meet or exceed their objectives.
