About Asa
Good day to all! My name is Asa. I understand what some of our members have gone (and still going) through in defining themselves with a position for long-term purposes. I have “felt” the discomfort with attempting to transition from 20-plus years of active duty with the military to civilian life. Applied and was hired with positions in hopes to ascend higher in the company for my job security and stability--resulting in either organization evolving positions or becoming "stuck" in positions without progression opportunities.
My 25 years working with U.S and international forces helped my transition and in turn, I took the time to help others. I have a Bachelors in Information Systems Management, but my core background is within the process improvement and organizational management fields. Of course, I still feel like I am transitioning in some ways… mainly due to unique programs and projects I performed while I was in (and the four years of consulting after I transitioned).
There are some realities that prior military people need to know; I feel not enough education, assistance and training (the 3-4 day “Transition Assistance Program” is not enough for exiting Armed Force members) to help people. Someone building a resume is not enough…other factors and additional information to build “the package” is needed for the person’s long term mindset in looking for a potential career that will fit their desires and/or provide overall stability in achieving objectives in getting a job or goals in building and retaining that “second career.”
The other reality I would advertise is not to “settle” with that job (what happens if that job is ended; been thru that myself). Jobs in companies constantly evolve and we have to keep up with it.
Feel free to view my referenced Linkedin profile. I leave my profile specifics “open” with intent to show how some can convert Armed Force jargon to “civilian speak.”
